Day 12 and 13

On day 12 we woke up to strong winds and big waves. We decided to wait for calmer seas, in the late afternoon, before heading for Ålesund. In the meantime, the owner of Flø feriesenter contacted a journalist from the local newspaper. We were interviewed after lunch and began paddling at around 3:00 pm. The waves were still quite large, so we often held onto each other's kayaks for added stability. We were fortunate to come in contact with Lars Ole Oksnes, the leader of the Ålesund paddle club. He met us at the club's boathouse and let us store our kayaks there during our stay in beautiful Ålesund. He also kindly drove us to the comfortable home of Andreas, Helena, Aura and Liv. Bergliot's nephew Andreas and youngest daughter Liv are in the Faroes, but it is wonderful to spend time with Helena and Aura, laughing together and sharing good memories and stories. Delicious meals, warm showers, and washing machine are greatly appreciated! We are thoroughly enjoying day 13 relaxing and socializing here. We will set our alarms for 4:00 am tomorrow - a long paddle to Harald's (my nice colleague in the orchestra) father's house on Midøya.
